Thousands of Florida kids need help getting ready for Kindergarten and you can make all the difference. Offer your time and talent as a tutor and be more for preschool students.
As a Preschool Literacy Tutor you’ll spend your days helping children ages 3-5 to talk, read, write, sing and play in order to develop early literacy skills and get ready for Kindergarten. Embedded in a classroom, you’ll work closely with a teacher to enhance daily literacy activities and help students build both skills and confidence. With great training and onsite coaching, you’ll be ready to make an impact.
Students make the most progress when you are there, so our tutors serve during school hours and are needed for the whole school year. We are currently recruiting for the 2020-21 school year. Tutors have the option of beginning in August 2020, September 2020, or January 2021.
This is an AmeriCorps member position with Florida Reading Corps. Although the earnings are modest, the rewards are great! You’ll join an amazing group of more than 50 Florida tutors, determined to help students be more.

Tutors will serve 35 hours a week and are also eligible to receive:
*Segal AmeriCorps Education Award can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ may gift their award to their child, grandchild, stepchild or foster child.
Great tutors come from all walks of life. Whether you are 18 or 85, the most important qualification is a desire to help children succeed. That said, you also need to meet the following minimum qualifications by the time you begin your service.
*Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time.

Florida Reading Corps is an AmeriCorps program that helps more than 1,000 Florida children, age 3 to 5, become successful readers each year. Started in 2014, the program has helped more than 3,000 children improve their skills and become better readers. Rigorous third party evaluation has consistently shown that students who have Reading Corps make greater gains. What’s more — students with traditional risk factors make even greater gains than their peers! Building on success in Minnesota, Reading Corps is replicated nationally in 12 states and the District of Columbia.
